How to Shoot Faster! With Matt
Burkett was kindly sent us for review by Matt Burkett himself.
As the title of this DVD implies it's content is targeted for
those with some shooting experience. While the How to Shoot Faster!
With Matt Burkett contains great tips for shooters at varying
skill levels it's probably not the one to start learning with.
The basic techniques of grip stance etc. are covered in the previous
volumes of the practical shooting series and while a this DVD
contains a short review of basic techniques addressed in previous
volumes it's beneficial to be familiar with the basics to be able
to get the most out of this one. As the name implies this DVD
is concentrated on building up speed and fine tuning the previously
learned / existing techniques specifically for IPSC shooting.
Burkett starts each chapter by first explaining the subject matter
and then proceeds to shooting some drills with his student. The
student does most of the shooting while Matt coaches him as they
progress. This way he is instantly able to spot what his student
is doing wrong and correct him on the fly. This method makes the
DVD easier and more educating to follow than if it was just Matt
doing the shooting himself. It's also gratifying to see that the
tips and techniques Matt is teaching are actually making the student
shoot better.
There are no tactical scenarios or references to weapon use in
self defense in general, also the gear and gear placement are
pure IPSC.
Picture
& Sound
The picture quality and sound are both very good. There isn't
any fancy camera work to mention, but it's not really needed either.
You can clearly see and hear what Matt and his student are are
doing that's the important thing. It's also worth mentioning that
the DVD also played fine on a European PAL standard DVD-player.
The DVD is divided into chapters as follows:
Grip / Stance
Flinch
Gear
Elbows
Trigger control
Cadence
Cadence review
Calling your shots
Draw
Target Math
Plate rack drills
Out takes
The chapter names are pretty self explanatory and the DVD progresses
in a logical order from grip and stance to target math.
There is a downside to this DVD... Matt Burkett is depressingly
good and for the average shooter it's going to take an awful lot
more than just watching this DVD to get anywhere near his skill
level and speed. It's a great thing Matt has included the Out
takes section as it gives some comfort that even he is not perfect
and can't shoot at his full speed and accuracy all the
time.
There are no magic tricks or hidden secrets on this DVD that would
make one a lighting fast IPSC shooter overnight, but Burkett manages
to demonstrate where the average shooter is loosing compared to
the good ones and how things can be improved. If IPSC is your
thing, this DVD is definitely worth watching.
