| The
Liger belt was kindly sent to us for testing by LIGER™
PRODUCTS. The Liger gun belt is 1.5" wide gun belt
made of a material named ligerthane. According
to the manufacturer it has several advantages over "conventional"
belt materials such as nylon or leather. Ligerthane is supposedly
very strong, abrasion resistant, impervious to moisture
and common solvents. It also doesn't soften as many leather
belts do, but remains stiff and doesn't begin to sag or
twist. The belt has an outer pattern called LigerDerm™
that according to the manufacturer looks like leather. In
any case the belt looks smart and is well suited for everyday
wear even if one doesn't carry a gun. The Liger belt comes
in four different colors: Black, OD Green, Desert Tan and
BlackOut™. The first three have silver gray buckle
and the Blackout has a black one. The one we had for testing
was an OD green one.
Liger
belt with Mike's kydex holster |
The
Liger belt is relatively thin compared to leather
gun belts, it only 4 mm thick. Due to the material
and construction it's still very rigid. We used the
belt with Safariland and Uncle Mike's holsters carrying
full size 1911 pistol and a Glock 17. For the Mike's
holster the Liger belt was perfect fit and due to
the kind of "rubberish" feel of the material
the holster stayed in place extremely well.
The belt has been in use for a couple of weeks now
so the long time durability is still to be proved
but we will get back to the matter in couple of months
time.
If you are considering getting one, please visit the
manufacturers web site and see the measuring instructions.
Do NOT just order one based on your pants size. |
The buckle
The buckle on the liger belt deserves a separate mention.
It's machined (not cast) from a solid block of aircraft
grade aluminum, including the hook. After machining the
buckle is hard-anodized. The belt is riveted to the buckle
with two impressive stainless steel rivets. It's hard to
imagine circumstances where one could somehow end up breaking
the buckle.
The
buckle is designed so that the left over part of the belt
goes under the buckle/belt and the tip of the belt is thus
hidden and not left flapping around. This makes the belt
look very clean and smart when worn. Due to the buckle design
the belt is one of the most difficult to put on at first,
but after a while you develop the correct technique and
it's no longer an issue. The holes on the belt seem very
tight at first, but after some wear the hole one uses becomes"
just right".
We wont give any stars to the belt yet because as said before
it has been in use for a short period of time but it's looking
good so far.
