makes high-quality AR-15 rifles and pistols. Currently, Bushmaster is owned by Cerebus Capital Management, which also owns DPMS Panther Arms and Remington Arms. Bushmaster AR-15s are offered in 5.56mm, and feature mil-spec chambering with forged aircraft grade (7075-T6) aluminum receivers. Most all Bushmaster AR-15 barrels are made from 4150 steel, and come in a 1:9 twist rate, not to mention chrome lined to extend longevity and reliability. Some Bushies are available with a 1:7 twist rate, but that is on a special order basis. Stainless steel of chrome-moly barrels are available on certain models. This writer has owned a Bushmaster XM-15 with a chrome-lined, 20” barrel for five years now, and let me tell you, my friends, it shoots like a dream. I mean, the thing can pound nails! And I’ve never had a jam of a failure to feed, not once. Other than Colt and Armalite, Bushmaster is one of the oldest and widest established makers

| of AR-15s there is. So, if you’re considering getting an AR-15 for target shooting, varmint-hunting, or home defense, you cannot go wrong with a Bushmaster. They even make an AR-10 in .308 that you could use for deer hunting. If weight is a concern of yours, Bushmaster has your six covered; they make a line of carbon fiber receivers that fire 5.56mm, but are considerably lighter than the standard AR. In late January of 2008, Bushmaster signed a licensing contract with Magpul, granting Bushmaster the rights to produce and distribute Magpul’s Massada rifle, renamed the Bushmaster ACR. But that wasn’t enough for the hard-charging engineers at Bushmaster. They went one further and developed a new line of .50 BMG caliber, box magazine fed, highly accurate, long distance sniper and target rifles, the BA50 series. |
