imports the German engineered GSG line of .22 LR firearms. Very much resembling the fine firearms made by Heckler and Koch, the line of German Sport Guns (GSG) provides the potential for a wonderful afternoon at the range, without having to spend a lot of money. Often times the question is posed, “If you could only have one gun, what would it be?” My answer would be a quality semi-automatic chambered in .22 LR, and the GSG-5 .22 carbine would be a great choice. Here’s why: You can do almost everything you’d ever need to do with a .22 LR gun. It is perfect for small game, works exceedingly well within range on predators and varmints, is quiet and cheap to shoot, and can even harvest whitetail deer out to about 40 yards. It’s not about the size of the round; it’s about bullet placement. One well-placed .22 behind the ear will take a deer cleanly. In addition, a semi-auto .22 can serve decently as a defensive weapon, if the need arises. A big plus of the .22 LR is that you can shoot it all day long for less than 20 bucks, and when you’re all done, you don’t have a sore shoulder, and your ears aren’t ringing. You just have a lot of holes in the target. Much as is the case with the GSG line of .22 LR firearms from American Tactical Imports, often some company will make a clone of a larger gun, but design it to shoot .22 LR. Then what happens is that .22 version is released to the public, and it winds up overtaking it’s larger caliber brethren in popularity. This

writer has shot the .22 LR GSG-5 carbine, and compared it to my trusty old, reliable Ruger 10/22. I am pleased to report that the GSG really gave my little Ruger a run for it’s money. In my mind, they are equally reliable and accurate. But man of man, does the GSG look cooler! See for yourself. Pull this little puppy out at the range and check out the slack-jawed faces of your buddies.
