mission: Tactical Ropes
Intelligence:
rope can be used to moor up a boat, climb a mountain, repel down a cliff, pull someone out of the ditch, hang food up from the bears, and even make a tourniquet to save someone’s life. There are two main types of rope that are commonly used by outdoorsmen and tactical professionals alike. They are nylon and polypropylene. First, let’s talk about nylon. Among the various types of rope, nylon is the strongest and also the longest lasting. Nylon can stretch instead of break, but then will return back to its normal length. Because of this quality, nylon makes the best rope to use when enduring “shock” loads, like when towing or lifting heavy weights. Nylon will stretch where other ropes would break. In addition, nylon is impervious to oil and most other chemical, as well as unaffected by the UV rays of sunlight.

Nylon rope is abrasion resistant and also rot proof. Nylon rope is unaffected by water. For these reasons, nylon is the preferred rope on sailing vessels and commercial fishing boats alike.
Speaking of boats and fishing, there is another widely used rope: polypropylene. This is because polypropylene is the only rope that floats. Polypropylene is two to three times stronger than manila rope, but nowhere near as strong as nylon. It is much less expensive though, which is why it is one of the best selling all-purpose ropes on the market. |
