mission: .223 Remington Ammunition
Intelligence:
the .223 Remington round was developed in the 1964 specifically for the AR-15 series of rifles. The round was intended to be a replacement for the varmint cartridge .222 Remington. 5.56 x 45mm NATO, and external dimension-wise, the two rounds are nearly identical. The center-fire .223 Remington is one of the most popular rifle cartridges in the United States, used for everything from varmint hunting, to self defense, to law enforcement. Bullet weight for .223 Remington runs from 36 to 77 grain, and velocities are 2,750 to 3,750 ft / sec. The .223 Remington is known for its high velocity, flat trajectory, and tendency to fragment upon impact, producing a wound channel orders of magnitude larger than its relatively small size.
