FAQ

Breech face failure [picture courtesy of llcoolj_2222 at Glocktalk]
A cracked breech face from a 3rd gen. Glock 17. A very very rare case and apparently a combined result of a manufacturing defect and dry firing. Again, this is extrememly but partly because of that we wanted show what it looks like.

Connector
There are 3 factory connectors available. 2,0kg / 4.5 lbs. , 2,5kg/5.5lbs, and 3,5 /8.0 lbs. Most Glocks are fitted with the 2,5kg/5.5lbs. connector, the 34 and 35 models come with 2,0kg / 4.5 lbs connectors.

[addition 18.4.06]
We were immediately contacted that the lightest connector should say 3.5 lbs. not 4.5 lbs. However we have in front of us a very recent 57 page Glock official product catalog (not The Glock Annual) that states in several different pages that the G 34 for example is equipped with a 4.5 lbs connector not 3.5 lbs. If anyone has any info if the lighter connectors used to be 3.5 lbs let us know.
Firing pin spring (factory)
In addition to the standard 24 Newton firing pin spring (silver) there are two other factory firing pin springs available. Red (28 Newton) and Blue (31 Newton). These are not available for US market. They are intended to be used with ammo that has harder primers than usual.

Front sights (factory)
There are 3 different factory front sights available. The standard polymer one, a steel one, and a self illuminating tritium dot version (steel). The one in the picture is the night sight.

Lead ammo
According to Glock no lead ammo should be fired with Glocks. Due to the polygonally rifled barrel the barrel fouls easier with lead ammo than traditionally rifled barrels. Excess fouling can lead to dangerously high barrel pressures. Some have tried it and claim to have had no problems, but since the factory recommends against it so do we.
Lubrication
Avoid over lubricating your Glock. Lubricate the barrel, the inside of the slide where the barrel hood rides against the slide and the barrel lug at the bottom of the barrel. Apply a drop of oil to each of the slide rail grooves. Apply a drop of oil where the trigger bar and connector meet. That's it.
Loaded chamber indicator [picture courtesy of Butch at Glocktalk]
All currently manufactured Glocks have a loaded chamber indicator (pictured). This means that the old model extractor has been reshaped and protrudes from the slide when a round is chambered.
Magazine catch (factory)
There are 3 different factory magazine catches available. Standard, Extended and Oval (pictured). The extended version is the same that is used in Glocks with wider frames like G21. The Oval version is not interchangeable with the standard version without gunsmithing. The Oval magazine catch requires a different shape cut in the frame in order for it to fit. Glocks fitted with Oval Magazine catches will also not accept standard or extended mag catches because of the different shape cut in the frame. It is unclear if the Oval version is available for wide framed Glocks.

*Extended (plus 2) floorplates are available in calibers 9mm, .40 S&W, 380 AUTO and .357 SIG.
Manual safety (factory)
Glock has at one point made a special batch of pistols equipped with manual safeties. Norwegian army is mentioned to have acquired these weapons in the past. They are currently not manufactured by the factory.

[addition 18.4.06] According to Jykke the very first models sold to the Finnish police were also equipped with manual safeties.
Manual safety (aftermarket)
Cominolli is making an aftermarket safety that can be installed on standard Glock pistols. Gunsmithing required.
Maritime spring cups
Factory replacement part for the standard spring cups. Ensures reliable cycling when the weapon is submerged. See firing a Glock under water.
Metal frames (aftermarket)
Yes they exist. CCF Raceframes has started to make aluminum and steel frames for Glocks.
New York Trigger Spring
A replacement trigger spring that produces a heavier "revolver type" trigger. Originally developed for the NYPD hence the name New York trigger spring. There are 2 different "New York" trigger springs available N.Y.1 and N.Y.2. The New York trigger springs increase trigger pull weight from 2,5kg/5.5 lbs. to 4,9kg/11 lbs. with N.Y.1 (olive green) or 3,2kg/7 lbs. to 5kg/11 lbs. with N.Y.2 (orange)
Parts compatibility
Most of the parts in Glock pistols are compatible with at least some other models. Parts that are compatible with all Glock pistols are Spacer sleeve, Firing pin spring, Spring cups, Firing pin safety spring, Extractor depressor plunger spring, slide cover plate, Rear sight, Front sight, Magazine catch spring and Trigger spring.
P Model Glocks
A red framed training gun that can be dry fired and disassembled, but cannot fire live ammo. Models available are G17P, G19P, G22P, G23P, G26P.
Rear sights (factory)
There are 4 different factory sights available. Polymer, Adjustable, Steel, and Night sight (steel). Glock rear sights are also available in 4 different heights 6,1mm, 6,5mm, 6,9mm and 7,3 mm.
Reloaded Ammo
According to Glock no reloaded ammo should be fired with Glocks, but shooting appropriately reloaded quality ammo will not damage a Glock pistol. However shooting reloaded ammo may void the factory warranty.
R Model Glocks
A red framed training gun that can be dry fired and disassembled, but cannot fire live ammo. Features a resetting trigger and a laser impulse generator in the barrel. Models available are G17R and G19R.
Slide Peening
Slide peening is a phenomena that occurs on most Glocks. It's the result of the frame flexing under recoil and the locking block touching the insides of the slide. The bigger the caliber the bigger the marks on the slide. The peening stops after a certain point and is not anything to be concerned about.
T (Training) Model Glocks
Models G17T and G19T are available. These models have blue frames and fire 9mm FX rubber / color marking ammunition. Available for LEO only.

[addition 18.4.06 by Jykke]
There is also a 8x21AC model available. This variant is chambered for reusable compressed-air casings and ensures reliable functioning without cemical propellants.
Trigger spring
All glocks are fitted with the standard coil type trigger springs. In addition to the standard spring there are 2 different "New York" trigger springs available N.Y.1 and N.Y.2. The New York trigger springs increase trigger pull weight from 2,5kg/5.5 lbs. to 4,9kg/11 lbs. with N.Y.1 or 3,2kg/7 lbs. to 5kg/11 lbs. with N.Y.2
Underwater shooting
The Glock 17 can be fired underwater and it will cycle and function. Only the 9mm models are "suitable" for underwater shooting. Only FMJ ball ammo is to used when shooting underwater. Serious injury can and WILL occur if you don't know what you are doing so DO NOT attempt this yourself. Failing to take proper precautions will also break the gun.
